Well, gues I'd better write - been quite a while. Bought a camera - not the one I wanted, but a better one. It's a Canon FX single lens reflex. Also, I bought a Minicam strobe unit. Paid $98.75 for the camera and $25.25 for lite. Quite a bit less than stateside. Both work real good - will send some slides home as soon as I finish roll of film. Got a letter from F. H. the other day. Guess 2 or 3 others are near here too! This morning at 0730, 10 men from Sig. Company plus 10 others, plus 5 Nung (Chinese) troops, went to Cam Rahn Bay with a convoy of 40 trucks to pick up supplies. We were guards on the trucks - nothing happened - got back about 1700 tonight. Nothing else happened since I wrote last. We had 2 practice alerts in the same night last week - sure surprised us - guess that's what they're supposed to do! They had all the post (Long Van Air Base) on condition "gray" - no one downtown except on official business. The road to Cam Rahn Bay is terrible! About as wide as a 2½ ton truck - bridges falling in - one has edge fallen off - just wide enough to get through - other one tires rub on both sides when we go across - so narrow. Well, guess I'd better close for now and go to bed. Got to go to work in the AM.

You will never guess what I got in the mail yesterday! The first letter you wrote on Aug 5 with ___ ___'s letter in it. They got it on Aug 10 at Saigon and didn't forward it until 15 Sept! I now have 10 letters from you – got letter of 19 Sept yesterday too. I'm going on a trip tomorrow to Bien Hoa to our C-3 camp. Mr. Meadows (warrant officer) our Officer-in-Charge and I are escorting a commo hut – just a box off a commo van truck – to our camp down there. Will probably be in a C-130 plane. Don't know how long I'll be gone – maybe back by tomorrow PM. Got the package of goodies – real good – got soggy fast. They were all broken up but still edible. Also got the magazines – none except Railroad Model Craftsman – 3 months old over here. The "thing: on the picture (ID) is a holder for the name card – not "scarf". Have some slides out being processed now – will send home when I get them. Also, I could use a book of 8¢ stamps. It costs 16¢ to mail in rolls of film from here to Hawaii. I never have looked for satellites – cloudy most nights. We had a small celebration last week on the 5th anniversary of the Special Forces. Parties at all the clubs, etc.
